Greetings Everyone,
Wow I had no idea I was getting new people to my little Hobbit Hole here and I would very much like to thank Em and her Writing Merit Badges for sending me a bit of traffic. (Click on one to visit her site)
From Box 5:
Recently I had the opportunity to go see a midnight showing of The Last Airbender, by M. Night Shyamalan. Based off of the Nickelodeon animated show that follows the lead character of Aang and his two friends as they attempt to save their world.
Thanks to the wonders of Netflix and my Xbox 360 the Wife and I watched all of Book 1 of the show. Which is what the first movie is based off of. And I must say that the Wife and I were very disappointed with the film.
Now before I continue I want to say that I am not a very harsh critic of movies. If I am entertained and everything mostly makes sense then I will just accept it as flawed movie but still enjoy it.
But as the movie opens you meet with out two support characters Katara and Sokka as they are out gathering food. And it is here that their journey begins to high adventure. But it is also here that something totally jolted me completely out of the movie. Simply put it was how the characters pronounced the names. Now this might sound silly, but being based on an established franchise you would figure that they would just keep the names and such. But not at all, they sounded completely different and just kinda silly to me.
The other real complaint about the film is that it was so rushed. I understand you had and entire season to cover, but it just felt like to me that instead of picking and choosing what to show. The whole season was just mashed together to form on bit clip show of the first season/Book 1 up until the last couple of episodes which was basically expanded on for about the last 45/60 minutes.
I thought clip show might have been a good term for the movie, but instead looking back I do believe what I originally said about the film. If felt like a broadsword was used to edit it instead of a scalpel. And overall just so disappointing. I mean I could see a great film being inside the show but this was not it.

I have seen nothing but lukewarm (at best) comments about this movie.
You did motivate me to finally request the cartoon, though!

Well Hello Em,
I want to thank you for coming by my little Hobbit Hole. As for Airbender, like I said above. Very, very diappointing. But the show really does rock, great stuff. Also I should warn you a bit that Aang is a bit more silly in Book 1 and it can get a tad hair pulling. But that is the only negative about the cartoon that I have. Haven’t started Book 2 or 3 yet of the cartoon.
Now you want a good movie review (Teaser):

I also haven’t heard anything good about the movie — from the casting to the story itself. I have seen a few of the TV episodes, though, and enjoyed them very much! (I am totally here from Em’s Merit Badger blog, but you knew that! Hi, DQuartermane! Hi, Em!)
